Castellers -human towers- Workshop (11th March)

On Tuesday afternoon, we had a typical activity from Catalonia, “els castellers” (human towers). The group of castellers from Santa Coloma de Gramanet came to our school, Institut Joan Brossa, and they told us about this activity: what castellers are, the different kinds of towers, how people have to dress, the target and a little bit of history. This was the first part.

The second part consisted on a hands-on workshop and Swedish and Catalan students were invited to help the castellers built the towers. At first, it was a bit scary but we only had to stay on the first floor and make the support of the tower. Later, some of the Swedish students wanted to try to be on the second floor of the tower, so they were taught how to climb on top of the shoulders of one of the professionals.

It was really fun to spend time all together making this activity because we learnt so much and we were able to get to know each other better.
